What is vitiligo micropigmentation?

Vitiligo micropigmentation, also called vitiligo camouflage tattooing, places custom-blended, skin-toned pigment into pale vitiligo patches so they blend in better with the skin around them. It doesn't treat vitiligo or bring your own pigment back. It camouflages the patches you already have.

It is only suitable for vitiligo that has been stable for at least three years, and it works best on smaller areas. Each session takes about an hour and costs £395, and most people need more than one. Every treatment starts with colour-match tests at our clinic in Chiswick, W4.

Is Vitiligo Camouflage tattoo treatment right for me?

Vitiligo camouflage may suit you if:

• Your vitiligo has been stable for at least three years, with no new patches and no existing patches growing

• The areas you want treated are fairly small

• You aren't currently having phototherapy for your vitiligo

We only treat stable vitiligo because tattooing slightly injures the skin, and in active vitiligo, that can trigger new pale patches on the treated skin. If you're being treated by a dermatologist, please check with them before booking.

We don't treat very large areas. The number of sessions, the cost and the discomfort would be too much to make it worthwhile.

What will happen during my consultation?

During your consultation, we look at your skin tone, the patches you want treated and your vitiligo history. We then place one or two tiny colour-match tests in a patch. These settle over a few weeks and show you how the pigment will look in your skin, and whether your skin reacts, before we treat a larger area.

What happens during my vitiligo Camouflage Tattoo treatment?

After numbing cream has taken effect, your practitioner uses a fine electronic hand-piece to place pigment into the patch. Colour is built up in light layers over several sessions so it blends gradually with the surrounding skin.

How long will it take?

Each treatment session takes about 1 hour and costs £395. Typically you may need multiple sessions, and we'll give you an estimate after your colour-match test.

Will it hurt?

We’ll apply numbing agents before the treatment begins. Our clients describe the discomfort as no more than around 4 out of 10.

What kind of training does the technician have?

All our technicians have an extensive portfolio of treatments and have been through our training course, which is recognised by the Special Treatments Licensing Board as well as VTCT and ITEC.

Will I be able to go back to work straight afterwards?

Yes. The treated area may be red and a little swollen for up to three days. Contact us if you notice anything unusual while it heals.
